In February 2007, during the military campaign “Hot Winter” designed to neutralize the terror structure in Nablus- IDF forces uncovered five explosives labs, a LAW missile, a large number of pipe bombs, explosives material and a countless number of other weapons. 3 IDF soldiers were injured during the campaign, one suffered moderate injuries and two suffered light injuries. During a large-scale campaign on the streets of Nablus, in March of that year, the IDF and the ISA with the cooperation of the military intelligence team based in the city concluded an intense 18 month undercover sting which resulted in the arrest of 18 wanted terrorist operatives. That same month the IDF arrested “Mahmoud the young” head of the Islamic Jihad in Nablus.
During the past year a number of clashes took place between forces and terrorists operatives in the city. On the 27th of September the forces were successful in thwarting a terrorist attack - a success due to the work of the men of the ISA, Horev battalion and paratroop forces that participated in the operation. The forces entered the Balata refugee camp in Nablus following intelligence reports indicating an upcoming terrorist attack- and there uncovered explosives belt weighing 10 kg. During arrest operations on the 22nd of July, that occurred in Mukata, Nablus, 23 senior terrorist operatives were arrested following a four day siege. On the 31st of August the forces of the Horev battalion neutralized Faadi, Kafisha a wanted senior terrorist operative based in the Judea and Samaria region who was responsible for a large number of attacks.
In 2006, IDF forces thwarted a large number of attempts to smuggle weapons through checkpoints in the Judea and Samaria region. The soldiers manning the Chwara Labeda checkpoint thwarted over 130 attempts to smuggle weapons, confiscating 29 explosives,11 guns and improvised guns, 7 improvised grenades, 25 Molotov cocktails and over 60 blades. On the 11th of July of that same year, following intelligence reports, IDF forces uncovered explosives weighing 15 kg, in Kfar Atzira A- Shamilya, in Nablus, that was meant for use by Tanzim terrorist operatives against IDF forces operating in the area.
On the ninth of October 2006, a Palestinian terrorist operative ran towards the Chwara checkpoint holding an exposed blade in his hand. He then attempted to stab an IDF soldier manning the checkpoint searching Palestinian vehicles exiting Nablus. A further soldier identified the terrorist shot at him. The IDF medics provided medical treatment in that location but the operative died from his wounds. No injuries were reported to the IDF force.
