The new Amit Pinpointing observation system, based on the Amit observation system, is currently being tested by the Golani Brigade in hopes that the system will become operational in the near future.
This new observation system, which was designed for medium ranges, includes the same capabilities of the Amit, but contains additional capabilities such as the ability to mark several waypoints with a longitude/latitude accuracy of 12 digits.
The Amit system will soon be replacing its predecessor, the Yuval observation system, which is being used by the Infantry brigades at present time. This system is a thermal based system that has a range of a few kilometers and is used by infantry troops, patrol units, field intelligence units and combat intelligence units. Today, most infantry units use this system in their observation divisions.
The Amit system uses thermal technology to allow easy operation and transportation. The system detects the thermal signals and converts them to visual images that are displayed to the eyes of the soldier.
“The Amit system is a step forward in the right direction for the observation units,” explained the Head of the Weapons Department at the Infantry and Paratroopers main headquarters. “There is great satisfaction from all the units while using the system.”
