Military Chief Rabbi
Responsibilities
  1. Matrimony and burial: The responsibility for the registration and management of the family statues of all those who serve in the IDF. Meaning: dealing with marriages and divorce, converting to Judaism, treatment of widows, identification and burial of IDF's fallen soldiers and the identification and burial of enemy fallen soldiers. Additionally, consolation and support to mourning families.
  2. Keeping kosher and keeping Shabbat in all IDF bases: Food supplies and kitchens are constantly under supervision and inspection of the Military Rabbinate. The fact that all military kitchens are kosher promotes unification among all those serving in the IDF.
  3. Education about Judaism and tradition: The Military Rabbinate cares for the fulfillment of religious ceremonies, educational groups on the Torah and on Jewish religious laws, synagogues and prayer rooms. When every soldier is sworn into the IDF, he, or she, receives a Torah book, and the rabbinate is responsible for providing anyone who is interested with holy books. The Military Rabbinate musical group and the Chief Military Cantor perform at various national ceremonies.
