- To defend the State of Israel from the air and all areas where the IDF is operating

- To gain air supremacy on all front in which the IDF is engaged

- To take part in combat against targets on land and at sea

- To strike at targets deep in the heart of enemy territory

- To gather and assess aerial intelligence and to offer its input in piecing together the IDF's overall general intelligence assessments

- To transport forces, equipment, and relevant ordnance by air to a designated destination

- To embark on search and rescue missions as well as air evacuation missions

- To carry out special operations

- To develop air power with the aim of fulfilling the purpose of the air force, part of the IDF's comprehensive plan for building its might in accordance with the authorities granted to it.
