Atuda is an army program for new Israeli immigrants who wish to complete their university studies prior to doing their army service. After enlisting in the IDF and showing a letter of acceptance by the institution at which the participant plans to study, he/she is able to continue with his/her studies. During time off, participants do basic training and some type of reserve duty. Participants complete their regular, required army service after they complete their studies. Time spent in basic training (normally one month during the summer) counts towards obligatory service and participants receive the full rights, obligations, and pay of a regular soldier. Reserve duty (Miluim) does not count towards the required service.þ
The service in the IDF:þ
After completion of studies, participants complete their required service. Although it is not guaranteed, there are opportunities to obtain a job within the IDF that relates to the participant’s field of study.
