Major General Yair Golan enlisted in 1980 and began his service in the Paratrooper Infantry Brigade. He served there as a company commander, the commander of the 'Orev' company, a deputy battalion commander, an Operations Branch officer, and the commander of brigade 890.

  • In 1993 he commanded a battalion in the IDF Officers' School.
  • In 1994 he served as the Operations Branch Officer of the Judea and Samaria Division
  • Between 1996 and 1997 he commanded the Eastern Division in the Lebanon Liaison Unit.
  • Between 1998 and 2000 he served as the Head of the Operations Department in the General Staff.
  • Between 2000 and 2002 he commanded the Nachal Infantry Brigade.
  • Between 2003 and 2005 he commanded the Judea and Samaria Division.
  • Between 2005 and 2007 he commanded the Judea and Samaria Division

Major General Yair Golan is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, as well as a graduate of military and defense studies in the United States War College. He has a bachelors' degree in political science from Tel Aviv University and has a masters' degree in public administration from Harvard University.

Major General Golan is married and a father of five.
