Since his draft in 1977, Major General Zamir has served in various positions human resources positions, both in field units, and in the General Staff. After serving as a Brigade Personnel Staff Officer, and a Division Personnel Staff Officer, Major General Zamir was:
- Appointed Head of Reservist Personnel Planning Division of the Manpower Directorate Branch.
- Commanded the Draft Board of the IDF and the Standing Forces Department of the IDF Ground Forces.
- In 2001, Zamir was promoted to Brigadier General and Head of Manpower Planning and Administration Unit in the Manpower Directorate Branch. As such, Zamir oversaw all planning with regards to manpower in the IDF, including recruitment, training, and where needed, reinforcements in all forms of service in the IDF – mandatory, regular, and reserves.
- In 2005, Zamir was promoted to Deputy Head of the Manpower Directorate Branch, while also overseeing the Welfare Department of the Manpower Directorate Branch.
Major General Zamir has a BA in Social Sciences from Haifa University, an MBA from Ben Gurion University, and is also a graduate of the Senior Management Course of the Ministry of Defense. Major General Avi Zamir, 50, is married and father of three children.
