Major General Amir Eshel, Head of Plans and Policy Directorate

Maj. Gen Amir Eshel was born in Yaffo in 1959. In 1977 he was drafted into the Pilot's Course of the IAF and completed his training as a combat pilot in 1979.  His journey as a pilot began at an operation exercise in the Etzion Air Force base.  During the course of his service as a Skyhawk pilot Eshel participated in the Lebanon War.  He served as an instructor in the Pilot Training School and in the operation exercise course for two years.

During his service Eshel also served in positions of:

  • Commander of the training branch in the Netz Squadron
  • Deputy commander of the Netz Squadron
  • Head of the B sector in the operations department
  • Barak flight commander in Ramat Dod Air Force base
  • Flight commander of Course 2000 at Tel Nof base
  • Head of operations department in the Air Force headquarters
  • Commander of  Rimon Air Force base
  • Commander of Tel Nof Air Force base
  • Head of Air Force Group squadrons
  • Chief of IAF Staff

Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel holds a B.A. from Auburn University in Alabama and a Masters in Political Science from Haifa University from the National Security College.

Maj Gen. Amir Eshel is married to Abigail and is the father of Inbar, Yoav and Ori.
