09 May 1972 : General Staff Reconnaissance Unit takes over the kidnappers of the "SABENA" plane
The combat soldiers of the General Staff Reconnaissance Unit successfully release the 100 passengers and crew members of the Belgian "SABENA" airplane.

24 January 1972 : IAF Strikes Targets in Syria
In reaction to terrorist activity in the Golan Heights, the Air Force strikes targets in Syria. The site which was hit, Tel Al-Erach, was used as a base for terrorist activities. The town included a tent encampment, building structures, and a car. The planes flew eight attack flights, four patrol flights, two flights for photography purposes, and two helicopter flights. They achieved very good hits on their targets.
21 January 1972 : United States Announces "Phantom" Jet Deal
The United States announces a deal whereby it agrees to send 18 "Phantom" jets to Israel in exchange for the government's agreement to open talks with Egypt over an intermediate settlement and withdrawal from Sinai.
