Chairman of NATO Military Committee Visits Israel to Further Strengthen Military and Defensive Cooperation Between Israel and NATO

Today, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola arrived in Israel for an official two-day visit as the guest of the IDF Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi.
 
This marks Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola's third visit to Israel in the last four years, in his present capacity as well as his former capacity as Chief of Defense of Italy, and his third meeting with Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi. 
 
The visit is taking place in accordance with the invitation by the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, which was given to the Admiral during a meeting between the two in a NATO Generals' Conference in Brussels in November 2008, and its purpose is to further strengthen and deepen the military and defensive cooperation between Israel and NATO, while each of the sides updates the other on different strategic matters, mainly concerning the Middle East.
 
During his visit, the Admiral is scheduled to hold meetings with his hosts, Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi and Minister of Defense, Mr. Ehud Barak, as well as other senior officials in the General Staff.
 
Admiral Di Paola will be welcomed by an honorary guard alongside the Chief of the General Staff at the Rabin Base (Kirya) in Tel Aviv.
 
The Admiral is scheduled to visit the Engineering Corps' Yahalom unit (Special Operations Engineering Unit), as well as the Palmachim Air Force Base, where he will be briefed on the Israel Air Force's role in Operation Cast Lead and the Second Lebanon War. Furthermore, the Admiral will be touring the central and southern commands. 
 
The Admiral will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Roberta Iunca.
