In light of the Civil Administration’s recent projects to better the quality of life for Palestinian citizens of the West Bank region, the following are a few facts about the history and projects of the Civil Administration

IDF Website

The Israeli Civil Administration is a government and IDF body operating in the West Bank region, which runs local civil matters and cares for the well-being of the local population. The administration is composed of Israelis, Palestinians, IDF soldiers and officers and others from around the world.

The Civil Administration was established in 1981 following Israel’s peace treaty with Egypt. At the time the Ministry of Defense decided to separate responsibilities having to do with security from those of civilian matters.

The Civil Administration is part of the overriding Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), responsible for both the population in the Gaza Strip and that of the West Bank.

Some of the Civil Administration’s recent projects include veterinary courses, agricultural courses and solid waste facilities.
