“This event is held to mark the 60 anniversary of Israel’s independence and the 25th anniversary of the Brigade,” said the commander of the “Fiery Chariot” Reserves Brigade, Colonel Einav Shalev at the commemorative ceremony that took place in Tel Aviv, Yesterday evening (Aug. 7). “The most important part of the ceremony tonight is the coming together of partners. In fact, this is the first meeting of this sort since the Brigade’s founding, and it’s very important that we are holding it.”
The ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Sammy Torgeman, Commander of the Armor Cops; Brigadier General Agai Yachzekyel, and numerous former commanders of the Brigade, who include the present commander of Israel’s National Security College, Major General Gershon Hacohen; Major General Yitzhak Harel (res.); Brigadier General Ami Falent (res.), the first commander of the Brigade; and Major General Udi Adam (res.), the former GOC Northern Command. “It’s a wonderful to be here. I haven’t seen a lot of the people present at this ceremony in many years,” said Major General Adam (res.) “This is a great Brigade, and a very meaningful part of my service.”
(From the right) Major General Gershon Hacohen and Major General Udi Adam (res.) “The reserve soldiers who serve in this Brigade do many days of reserve service. In 2007 alone, we had 15 000 reserve soldiers and officers,” said Colonel Shalev. “The number testifies to the willingness and desire of reserves soldiers to contribute and serve. This Brigade gives us strength. It really is a terrific Brigade.”
The “Fiery Chariot” Reserve’s Brigade was established in June 1983, after the Second Lebanon War. “Brigadier General Falent was asked to establish the Brigade. He asked people who served with him to help him in the founding and building, and they built the Brigade together from ground zero,” said Colonel Shalev.
“Gatherings of this sort are very exciting and emotional. It’s a emotional meeting after years of bonding and strengthening our friendships,” said Brigadier General Sammy Torgeman. “You were together a long time – in the tanks, operations, and training exercises. There, friendships were formed that have lasted for 25 years. I know that a call-up order for reserve soldiers is a call-up for the entire family, and I would like to thank you, all the families, for your support.”
