The Logistic branch received an important award of excellence from IDF Army Headquarters for its units, officers and soldiers who have greatly increased road safety in the branch.  The ceremony, in which the award was handed out, was held over the weekend in the House of the Soldier in Tel Aviv.  The ceremony also heralded the start of road safety week in the IDF in which a number of units will be presented with road safety excellence awards for their operations.  The Logistics branch has been honored with the award for a second year running for excellence in their ammunitions center, military medical school and the Tira base transportation company.  “The Logistics Branch must be praised for their commitment to the issue.  This is a professional body, a branch that leads the IDF in the matter of road safety.  This branch bears an important responsibility, maintaining secure roads for the members of the IDF,” noted GOC of Army Headquarters, Major General Benny Ganz.  “This country faces numerous security challenges, and we in the IDF are obligated to decrease the number of accidents and increase road safety.”

Further certificates of excellence were awarded to the IAF Hatzur Base, Sectorial 300 brigade and the Sinai formation.

This year marks the lowest number of accidents on the road in the IDF, a 40 percent drop from the years before. “Although this drastic decrease is a positive one, we can not be satisfied by the number.  We must increase awareness in this matter because road safety is a direct responsibility of the IDF”, said Major Ganz.  Later in the ceremony a letter from the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi was read, in honor of road safety week..  In the letter the Chief of Staff stressed that the IDF would continue working on increasing safety on the roads.  “This is the obligation of the organization responsible for protecting the citizens of the state.  I expect each soldier and commander of the IDF to obey the full letter of the law when it comes to road safety,” wrote the Chief of Staff.
