The IDF delegation sent to assist earthquake victims in Haiti landed on the island and built a medical facility on a football field to treat casualties of the collapsed UN headquarters in the capital of Port-au-Prince. Search and Rescue teams are already searching the city in an effort to find survivors in the rubble.

The IDF aid delegation arrived to Haiti on Friday (Jan. 15) and began building a field hospital to treat thousands of earthquake victims. The hospital will be able to absorb 500 casualties a day. In the afternoon, the hospital is already expected to receive wounded victims.

The delegation began coordination, and today assistance is expected to reach hundreds of casualties of the UN building that collapsed in the outskirts of the city. Israeli forces completed the construction of the tents in order to provide help for the people. The previous night, medical supplies from Israel arrived at the airport.

Additionally in the morning hours of Haiti, three Search and Rescue units were sent to areas damaged by the earthquake in Port-au-Prince. The units are under the command of company and division commanders of the Search and Rescue unit of the Home Front Command and include rescue officers, security officers, and the famous Oketz canine unit which utilizes dogs in order to find survivors.

Local government officials estimate that most aid efforts were already directed to the capital city Port-au-Prince, where an estimated 75% of its buildings were destroyed. The United Nations reports that communities outside of the capital are in a worse condition where the percentage of destruction is between 80 and 90%
