Operation carried out in response to rocket fired at Israel
On Wednesday night (Nov. 18), IAF aircrafts successfully targeted a weapon manufacturing site in the southern Gaza Strip and two smuggling tunnels in the Rafah border area. The attacks were carried out in response to a Qassam rocket fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning (Nov. 18). During the past months alone, approximately 15 rockets and mortar shells were launched at Israel. In total, more than 250 rockets and mortar shells were fired at Israel since the end of Operation Cast Lead in January and more than 750 hit Israeli in the whole of 2009. Throughout 2008, prior to the operation, over 3300 rockets and mortar shells were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel. In addition to that, on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 18), and explosive device was detonated against IDF forces patrolling the border with the central Gaza Strip, south of the Karni crossing.
The IDF will continue to respond to any attempt to disrupt the calm in Israel's southern communities.
