IDF successfully conducts large cooperation training exercise between various forces
Jonatan Urich
The training exercise that took place on Tuesday (Oct.13) at the Shizafon base in the South of Israel can be summed up in one word: cooperation. The Infantry Corps forces along with tanks, combat soldiers of the Combat Engineering Corps with assistance from the Field Intelligence Corps, soldiers of the Anti-Aircraft Division and snipers, artillery weapons and UAVs, combat helicopters and aircrafts – everyone united together in facing the fictitious enemy.
By the wild desert landscape overlooking the Shizafon base an imitation of an enemy village was built. The training IDF forces were faced with forces the size of an infantry company and a tank company – along with ground obstacles such as minefields. The event was attended by the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, the commander of the GOC Army Headquarters, Brig. Gen. Sami Turgeman, the commander of the Armored Corps, Brig. Gen. Agai Yehezkel, and cadets from the IDF Officers School soon completing their training period.
The Chief of the General Staff summarized the purpose of the event: "Now we are enjoying relatively quiet state along the borders, but I cannot promise it will continue. In our area, in the Middle East, we have some neighbors who have not accepted our existence as a Jewish and democratic State. The IDF, in my opinion, is the insurance certificate to the existence of the State. If we are presented with a challenge, we will have to operate in a way such that at the end of the battle no one will ask to identify the winner. It will be clear, as clear as it was during our last operation in Gaza."
"You are leading the forces in the field," the Chief of the General Staff said as he faced the Officers School cadets. "It is important as officers to understand the challenge: to lead people into the fire. I believe, there isn’t a bigger challenge than this for a human being," added Chief of the General Staff.
He added that, "the condition for success is the enemy evaluation, analysis of the field and the utilization factors operated in the field. The IDF is capable of bringing enough abilities to the battlefield, far beyond the abilities of our enemies. You, the commanders, are given the responsibility to use your intelligence in this joint cooperation."
"The IDF permanently stands in one of two situations: war or preparation for war. We must continue to prepare for war; otherwise there is no justification for the existence of the IDF. I have full confidence in the cadets sitting here, I believe in you and certainly in your capabilities," said Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi.
