“I am not aware of any disturbances, and quiet prevails on the northern border in general,” explained the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, during his visit at the IDF Induction Center on Tuesday morning (July 28). Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, who visited the new recruits of the Kfir Brigade, spoke of reports regarding the IDF’s preparedness on the northern border, and said: “Last week we saw an explosion in the South of Lebanon – something that confirms our claim that Hezbollah is holding weaponry in urban areas in southern Lebanon. We consider this severe, and the incident is being investigated by UNIFIL and the Lebanese government.”

The Chief of the General Staff also spoke about the issue of outposts in the Judea and Samaria region, saying: “The IDF has as of this hour not received orders to prepare for the evacuation of outposts in the Judea and Samaria region, and it is subordinate to the decision of the government.”

In his meeting with the future combat soldiers of the largest infantry brigade in the IDF, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi expressed his satisfaction with the increase of motivation for IDF service in general and service in the combat units in particular. In addition, the Chief of the General Staff mentioned that he specifically chose to attend the Kfir Brigade draft. “The Kfir Brigade has an important position in the operations in the Judea and Samaria region and the fight against terror. It is a brigade that often deals with friction with the Palestinian population – that is an operational and moral challenge for the brigade’s soldiers.”

The Commander of the Kfir Brigade, Col. Itai Viruv, agreed with the words of the Chief of the General Staff about the increased motivation for combat service, and said: “We as a new brigade, are satisfied with our progress and our persistence…”
