Despite the ongoing rocket and mortar fire into Israel, humantarian aid continues to be transferred to the Gaza Strip. During the month of March, 69,854 tons of humanitarian aid in the form of food, medical supplies, and additional items were transferred to the Gaza Strip for use in both the private and public sectors.
8,777,410 liters of heavy duty diesel fuel for the Gaza power station were delivered via the Nahal Oz fuel depot. Additionally, 3,185 tons of gas for domestic use were transferred to the Gaza Strip. The ongoing supply of gas for domestic use is reliant on Palestinian demand and is not subject to any limitations by Israel.
During the month of March, 384 medical evacuations from Gaza to Israel took place (including escorts), via the Erez Crossing.
Since the unilateral holding of fire on January 17, 2009, Israel has transferred 191,602 tons of humanitarian aid and 20,168,310 liters of heavy duty diesel for use by the Gaza power station into the Gaza Strip.
708 truckloads of humanitarian aid were delivered this month by the international community. However, during the last two weeks of March, international aid to the Gaza Strip has steadily declined.
Furthermore, 392,000 carnations were exported this month from the Gaza Strip to the European market at the request of the Dutch government. The quantity of flowers is determined by the Palestinian exporters and the amount of days utilized for export is according to Palestinian demand.
