The IDF website hosts lone soldiers who immigrated to Israel by themselves

Tal Moise

In Judaism, it is a tradition to host guests or Ushpizin (Aramaic for "guests") in your sukkah (traditional hut) everyday during the seven day holiday of Sukkot. This year the IDF website hosts lone soldiers (soldiers whose parents live outside Israel) who chose to connect their fate with the IDF and the State of Israel, in order to try to understand what stands behind their decision and how they feel as new Israelis dressed in uniform.

After a few months in an American college, Sgt. Omer Tasan understood that this was not the path for him. When he came to Israel, he enlisted in the IDF and joined the Nahal Brigade. Omer knows that despite all difficulties he made the right decision. He is currently being transferred to the South of Israel with his department, missing his family in Pittsburgh but feeling a strong sense of mission.
