Another success for the Iron Dome Missile Defense System-- the defense establishment and the Israeli company Rafael recently conducted a series of successful tests using the Iron Dome system, which is used to intercept short range missiles and rockets. A series of successful tests were conducted with the system which is expected to enter advanced stages of development in order to be operational by early 2010.

The system, developed by the Israeli company Rafael, is intended to protect the State of Israel from short and medium range rockets and it is developed as part of a larger defense system being developed by the defense establishment in order to protect the state from other threats, including long range missiles.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak praised the results of the tests and thanked all of the parties involved, including Rafael: “A multilayered defense system is Israel’s national and strategic goal. A system such as this will provide a layer of defense from Qassam and land-to-land missile threats, and will allow the defense establishment and the IDF to fulfill their highest duty- the defense of Israel- in the best way.”

During the following months, more tests are expected in order to make the system operational as soon as possible
