Over a year has passed since IDF forces fought the Hezbollah terror organization in the Second Lebanon War, and thanks to IDF wartime efforts, the northern border has quieted.  Also, more IDF forces have been deployed all along the Israeli border with Lebanon.  In addition, the IDF now ensures Israeli sovereignty in certain areas that Hezbollah controlled before the war.

The maintenance of peace and quiet in the area has been greatly assisted by the 13,000 UNIFIL soldiers stationed on the border in accordance with the UN’s decision. The soldiers assist in the search for new evidence across the border, and cooperate with Israel in decreasing Hezbollah action in the area.  The Lebanon army is now stationed in posts belonging to Hezbollah before the war.

On the Syrian border, a quiet tension prevails.  In response to Syria’s military buildup, the IDF has stationed a large number of troops in the Golan Heights and is training regular service soldiers and reservists for any possible occurrence on the border.
